Very interesting today at the CES. John Taylor spoke of partnerships betweeen Zenith, dealars and local broadcasters to bring HDTV to the local markets. Other partnerships to be developed by Zenith (and other manufacturers) with antenna companies, DBS companies and cable companies. Learned that MSFT requested and received a VSB modulator from Zenith which may indicate a future ZE/MSFT partnership. Will it be an equity partnership? Nobody is talking. Also, no announcement about a possible INTC equity investment into ZE. Additional equity partnerships (similar to the LGE partnership) appear to be a high priority at Zenith. Zenith definitely will be first out of the gate to sell HDTV equipment geared to the high-end, early adopter market. First units will be the Pro 900X at $12,600 coupled with the HDTV STB Receiver Decoder at $5,995. Quality is the best on the market. Zenith needs to develop an accompanying HD-capable DSS receiver to take advantage of the early DBS broadcasts in HDTV. Zenith is looking at several DBS companies to partnership with. No news on the new CEO or the licensing royalties on the VSB. Royalties will be on every HDTV, STB, PC, and SDTV capable of displaying Zenith's VSB transmissions. This will be a huge cash generator to Zenith. Does the Street realize this? Everyone here was blown out by the HDTV receivers. Zenith, especially, rules the HDTV platform. Let's keep the momentum going...
