China construction companies need to survive and China gain influence.
I don't think gaining influence in the Middle East, specially in Syria and moreover a neighbor of Israel.

The Chinese clever investment is to buy electrical plants (generation and transmission) harbors and deep water oil blocks in Brazil. That kind of thing is the clever money

USA paid, via Saudi Arabia, ISIS and other jihadists to attack Assad and take over Syria. <<The U.S. and its European and Gulf Arab allies, which backed the Syrian rebels, say that problem is largely of Putin and Assad’s making. >> Laughable. Evil, but laughable.

Do they really think people take seriously the absurd claim that Assad caused the attacks on himself? He asked [as per sovereign right to do so] Russia to help with self defence. Putin agreed and ISIS got smashed. Aleppo was a city of carnage with USA backing the ISIS evil.

Fortunately, Trump won and decided that Assad and his lovely wife Asma are much nicer people than ISIS evilists. Trump said kill ISIS. They did.

USA chalks up yet another catastrophic calamity. This time Syria. Having promoted Sunnis, Saudi Arabia, ISIS and jihad in general against a reasonably civilized ophthalmologist and his lovely English wife Asma, Team USA found (should they really have been surprised) that ISIS was feral fanatical and murderously horrendous.

To his credit Big Don saw that ISIS was worth obliterating.

So it was all for naught.

China now says they will swap loads of lovely oil for loans to rebuild Syria.

Hawkmoon is correct that Syria did not all become the property of USA but there is still a Team USA invader occupation force in part of it.

The local yokels in that area, not having access to official foreign office paperwork or pixels in Cyberspace behind secure servers cannot know whether their bit of planet Earth is now officially annexed or not. Anyway, the point is academic when Team USA troops have possession of the area.
