My wife has volunteered to do foster work in Operation Pets Alive in Houston and TNR (Trap Neuter Release) here in Wisconsin.

They find litters of cats and puppies and and foster them out to people who nourish them until they are adopted by qualified and caring families.

One has to be able to give them up - but it is very satisfying to help many more animals than just one long term relationship.

There are times you have none and can make a better informed decision at a later time - while still doing a good deed.

Houston actually flies dogs to the east coast for adoption and drives cats to Austin where there is a shortage of animals.

They are wonderful organizations with even better members!

Bob

Enough things in life we have no choice but to plan for or at least, try to plan for ...

Our last three dogs weren’t planned. We weren’t looking but somehow they found us.

If another one finds its way to our door, we’ll open it.

In the meantime, we still have Harry. Making the remainder of his life as comfortable as possible is enough of a plan.

RE: the last living connection to my parents.

My best childhood friend left behind a Pug his parents took ownership of and they got another just like it when the first passed.

Kevin's little brother now has the second Pug his parents left behind.

Bottom line, pets are members of our family.
