J..My advice is to read [I know it's a daunting task] as many of the postings on SI related subjects. These would include this board, the e-trade sucks board, datek thread, waterhouse, ameritrade, suretrade,,etc..etc..
All of the internet brokers have their strong/weak areas. I think that you will find a large cross-section of views expressed here on SI and other related internet links to let you form a well based opinion on the subject. My money is still with E-trade, which is one person's opinion...If they don't offer discount packages to "active traders" soon, however, I won't afford to be able to stay with E-trade. I paid them over 5k in comm. last year...really offset my profits more than was necessary in this competitive online broker environment..

Open a Suretrade account, and you will have all the research you want and more, compared with E-trade. You don't even have to send in the money. And open a Datek account for trade. I don't know how is Suretrade performance because I have never done a trade with them yet.
Good luck.
