al-len: long simply means stock that you own. It doesn't imply the
attidtude that you will hold. Simply stock owned. This thread seems
to lend the meaning to people that will hold. It only means that it
is purchased stock as opposed to short which means stock that shall
be purchased.

When a broker gives an order to sell, it is described in one of two ways:

Sell long: The stock is in your account or in your posession to be delivered later against the sell order.

Sell short: you borrow stock to sell.

Semantics in the industry, but important distinctions when the order to sell is given.
