I'm not too sure if this is the fact. I used Chameleon few years back and they already have task-bars then. In Window 3.1, 70% of people didn't know how to use Alt-tab to switch between windows, so Microsoft "invented" task-bar - most probably by copying somebody else idea.

Now they are COPYING PalmPilot tradmark by calling theirs Palm PC ! How outrageous ! That's an outright infringment of trademark - especially perpetrated by a monopoly like Microsoft. Gate is really shameless, taking consumers for fools - got rich too young could be the reason.

I recall using the Archimedes back in 1989, which had a taskbar that looked much like the Windows 95 one. Archimedes was/is a RISC-based system made in...Great Britain at the time, I think. It became much more widespread in Europe than it ever did in the U.S.
