Bush’s Top Ethics Lawyer Thanks Trump For Tweeting Himself Right Into Robert Mueller’s Hands

I keep saying President Trump will eventually tweet himself into a jam he can’t get out of.

I’m apparently not alone.

The top ethics lawyer for former President George W. Bush couldn’t help pointing out that Trump’s Twitter habits were just making special counsel Robert Mueller’s job easier for him.

Using Twitter on Christmas Eve to intimidate a witness (McCabe) in a criminal investigation is not a very Christian way to celebrate the holiday,” Richard Painter tweeted Sunday. “But it does make Mr. Mueller’s job easier and that’s a nice thing to do. Merry Christmas!”

He’s referring to Trump’s Tweets from the weekend, where he went after Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe and the FBI.

Trump tweeted out this weekend:

“How can FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, the man in charge, along with leakin’ James Comey, of the Phony Hillary Clinton investigation (including her 33,000 illegally deleted emails) be given $700,000 for wife’s campaign by Clinton Puppets during investigation?” Trump tweeted Saturday amid reports that McCabe would retire in early 2018.

To be clear, McCabe wasn’t given any money. A super PAC associated with Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe gave his wife’s campaign donations.

Painter, now serving as the vice chairman of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has been a vocal critic of Trump’s.

CREW saw their lawsuit against Trump for violations of the U.S. Constitution’s Foreign Emoluments Clause dismissed on December 21.

That doesn’t mean that Painter and his team have abandoned the fight. They feel special counsel Robert Mueller will eventually turn up something damaging not just to his associates and team members, but to Trump, himself, during the course of the probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

And if Mueller can’t find it, hang around and Trump will eventually tweet it out, himself.

The FBI wasn’t trying to rig our elections in the past. At least not that we know of. Trump is right to call a spade a spade. And he should fire the whole leadership there.
