I admit that one of the things that I find most annoying about President Trump’s perpetual petulance is that it makes it all too easy for leftists to romanticize the Obama years. For instance, I continue to be amazed how many folks have taken to longingly retweeting the former president’s generic well-wishes on Twitter and pretending that he was the pinnacle of class, dignity, and even temperament in the Oval Office. Obama was Trump with better hair. Trump is Obama with less reliance on a Teleprompter. Both were sustained by startlingly loyal cults of personality. What Obama did with mocking tones and late-night TV partisan mic drops, Trump does with his smart phone. Denying that inconvenient reality is really an absurd proposition. The reason we have a President Trump is because he is the Republican Obama. Simply poll Trump voters then and Trump supporters now and you will hear the common refrain: “It’s nice to have someone who does to the left what they have done to us for so long,” or “It’s great watching liberals have to live with what we lived with for eight years.” Progressives don’t comprehend that simply because they choose to continue living in a media-created world of fantasy where Obama was a unifier, America was well-respected in the world, and the president didn’t use his bully pulpit for vindictive, partisan vendettas. As an example there’s Obama’s former CIA director John Brennan who recently took issue with what he called Donald Trump’s “narcissistic, vengeful” response to the countries that condemned our national decision to recognize Israel’s capital city as Israel’s capital city: Brennan blasted as “beyond outrageous” such threats by the Trump administration against nations exercising their “sovereign right” to oppose the U.S. position. Such behavior shows that ”@realDonaldTrump expects blind loyalty and subservience from everyone — qualities usually found in narcissistic, vengeful autocrats,” Brennan tweeted Thursday. Brennan embodies a perfect example of left-wing obtuseness when it comes to the comparison between our current and former chief executives. In the collective mind of the left, Barack Obama could have never been so self-important and vindictive while wielding the influential controls of the world’s great superpower. Conservatives can’t help but snort at the lack of self-awareness on their part. After all, as pro-life activist Obianuju Ekeocha reminded anyone willing to remember: President Obama didn’t only threaten but immediately pulled funding from African countries that passed laws to define marriage as between one man and one woman. His administration punished us for not kneeling before the rainbow flag. THAT was narcissistic & vengeful. After reading that, go back to Brennan’s statement. It should become obvious to any fair mind why conservatives roll their collective eyes at the former director’s (and legion other leftists’) fake championing of the “sovereign right” of other nations to oppose a declared U.S. position. Did those African nations that Obama punished for using their sovereign right to define marriage in their culture not count? This is why Trump retains the support he retains – because many folks on the right, weary of this kind of autocratic rule when leftists are in power, are enjoying watching liberals sleep in a bed they made. themaven.net
