Photovoltaic roads is a dopey idea.

MQ, I agree. I cringe every time I see another wacky electrical generation technology.

Please, China (or anyone else), if you want to disrupt the electric utility industry, develop a cheap, reliable, system-scale load management technology. Batteries are a start for load shifting, but nowhere near system scale. They may be the answer, but top brains should be able to develop much better alternatives.

I have spent a career helping utilities manage their load profiles, and developing capital development solutions to meet those load demands. The revenues are in kWh, but the huge capital costs are in the kW capital projects. That is why the utility industry is so capital intensive.

With system scale load management, electric systems could attain near flat load profiles (the ideal), and we could shut down probably 40-50 percent of the present generation in this country.

Most of the discussions over wacky generation technologies are so misdirected.
