>> In only 30 days since the release of the CD-ROM, we find ourselves positioned to do business with more than 30 new Fortune 500 clients. We expect that number to grow dramatically and that, as a result of this Y2K-driven introduction, we will continue to practice our core business in these new accounts after the Year 2000 event is behind us.<<

This statement should certainly relieve concerns about the success of the CD, although it will be nice to hear next Q, perhaps, that several thousand or more CDs have been purchased and many tens of thousand compliance reports have been ordered from the data base.

COMMENT: The Asian Crisis may be much harder to resolve than the S&L crisis. The same accountants and lawyers who structured all the bad deals that sank the S&Ls were able to restructure the deals so that they could be liquidated in the market. In Asia, accounting standards are very questionable and often corrupt. It is hard to restructure deals when debts are hidden in second, third, and even fourth ledgers. It's hard to sell businesses and assets to would-be buyers if you can't provide full disclosure. Bonds should continue to outperform stocks in 1998, 1999, and 2000.

SUBSCRIBERS: The latest WEA will be posted Monday afternoon. Will capitalism prevail over crony corruption in Asia as it triumphed over Soviet communism? It could be tough: Corruption has been around alot longer than communism.

PUBLIC: Version 3.3 of my Y2K netbook, "Year 2000 Recession?" includes
material from my Y2K REPORTER #11 on the latest OMB progress report and the Social Security system. yardeni.com. The COMMERCIAL BANK CHART BOOK and the MONEY SUPPLY CHART BOOK were updated recently on my home page yardeni.com

MOVIES: I really enjoyed Wag the Dog (+++). As Good As It Gets (+++) is as good as it gets.
