"by and large society needs to decide how the wealth of the country is allocated."

That's what we do. We've decided that roughly 20-40% is allocated to government, and the individual gets the rest, to spend any way s/he wants. Should we tax the rich more? Yeah....

"Rat wants to increase taxes on the rich. His plan of choice has a top bracket of 99% tax for earnings above $1B. He also thinks GE should pay more in taxes than he does."

The statistics are not as good about the 50s as we have through SOI today. But all of the data we have available from the period has suggested that those paying the 81% or higher (up to 91%) rate in the late 50s amounted to 0.02% of taxpayers. Obviously, a totally insignificant amount of money to the Treasury.

So make your case, big mouth.

I didn't think so.

Far left socialist economist T. Piketty "analyzed" the 1960 tax data, and found THE TOP 0.01% OF TAXPAYERS PAID AN EFFECTIVE RATE OF 37% IN 1960. When the top rate was 91%.

And as was shown in Buffet's tax return a couple years ago, one of the wealthiest men in the world today paid tax on a mere 11 Million dollars, amounting to 21% even though much higher tax rates were then in effect.

You are full of shit as you can be.
