Rig count off two

HOUSTON: The worldwide offshore rig count declined by two rigs since lastweek, according to Offshore Data Services' weekly offshore rig count. In addition, the world rig fleet recorded a one-rig net decline in total size: two rigs were removed from the drilling fleet, one by sinking while under tow to the Gulf of Mexico, and the other by being retired for conversion to anotherrig-type. One rig rejoined the drilling fleet after its new owners announced that the previously-retired unit would be reactivated.

This week, 580 of the world's 605 mobile offshore drilling rigs are under contract. Worldwide offshore drilling rig utilization is 95.0 percent.

In the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, 171 of 177 mobile offshore drilling rigs are under contract. Gulf of Mexico offshore rig utilization is 96.6 percent.

The European offshore rig count is unchanged from last week. Of the 111 mobile offshore drilling rigs deployed in the region, 107 are under contract. European offshore rig utilization is 96.4 percent.
