Yes, you are correct. However, the vast expansion of the government spying powers that came under then purview of the Patriot Act and FISA laws, including the instantiation of the FISA court, happened first under George Bush and then was expanded and ratified under Obama. My intent wasn't to impune only Obama. Bush Jr was just as bad. It was in this century, under both of those Presidents, that our laws became very intrusive and overtly unconstitutional. They quite literally made our Bill of Rights and Habeus Corpus worthless. Most people don't understand that. And most people support those laws, even though it was the one of the greatest destructions of our privacy and freedom in my lifetime. We have seen a concerted, persisted, pervasive, and highly effective assault on our privacy, freedom, and Constitution over the last 17 years and it is accelerating, aided and abetted by advanced tech from companies like Google and Facebook. It is perhaps the greatest challenge of our time. Without privacy and without rights to our personal data, we are all just sitting ducks for tyranny. Freedom does not exist without privacy and personal data rights. The shackles are already on our limbs and we just don't realize it yet.
