<off topic> History of Cheerios.

genmills.com

General Mills' best-selling, ready-to-eat cereal was originally Cheeri Oats when it was first introduced in 1941. Developed as a convenient alternative to hot oatmeal, it was America's first oat-based, ready-to-eat cereal.
......
Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, the name Cheeri Oats had to be changed in 1945, to avoid a conflict with a competitor who suggested they had exclusive rights to use the word "oats" in a commercial name. Thus, "Cheeri Oats" was changed to "Cheerios."
......

On another note definition of the word cheerio:

From: m-w.com

Main Entry: cheer·io
Pronunciation: "chir-E-'O
Function: interjection
Etymology: cheery + -o
Date: 1910
chiefly British -- usually used as a farewell and sometimes as a greeting or toast

le coan bie: There was a news story yesterday, that stated that the eating of cheerios twice a day, lowers cholesteral. I think it was on Reuters, but not sure. I'll try to find it, but don't know if I will be able to.
The other part of your question. Ellen will answer, I am sure. al

le Coan Bie: biz.yahoo.com
you better print this out, I think it is only available for one week.
Gee finding that was easier than I thought it would be. al
added: General Mills (GIS) will probably have THIS news story forever, at their news desk.
I wonder if GIS would be considered a "BUY", after this news story??? LOL al

OFF TOPIC:

"Cheerios" doesn't mean anything by itself - it's just a breakfast cereal.

The expression: Who ate your Cheerios? just means that the person being asked this was or seemed to be in an especially bad mood. Sort of like "getting up on the wrong side of the bed".

(more correctly, the expression is actually "Who pi$$ed in your Cheerios?")
