The following litle note in Investor's Business Daily on
January 8th might shed some light on how and why some
doctors defend certain drugs:

<<Some 96% of the doctors who defended calcium channel
blockers when the blood pressure pills were questioned
in 1995 had financial relationships with pill manufact-
urers, the New England Journal of Medicine reported. It
said the conflicts came in the form of travel funds, speaking
fees, grants, consulting contracts and educational support>>

James , Re Barrons;
Re" They could not even admit that yes, it might have been more fair and accurate to have discolsed this up front. Goldstein can not give a medical lecture at a conference or publish a medical journal article without this disclosure but Barron's thinks that hidden agends just don't exist (except theri own and that is another topic!)

I think you may be asking too much from some of Barons great think tank minds.

-- Barron's, I think got duped by the reporter who wrote the article trashing Vivus.

-- They made the reporter respond to my letter. And the reporter maintains that Dr. Goldstein is unbiased because he works for a lot of Vivus's competitors; not just one. This is silly. Barron's and this reporter will look foolish in 2 weeks if Vivus doubles on any type of good news.

-- Also, one of the doctors on here has to respond to the challenge - questioning the objectivity of Dr. Goldstein & his comments.

-- Out.
