Actually, the true conservative (Guillermo Lasso) lost that election last year. Moreno had been a liberal follower of former socialist President Rafael Correa, who was term-limited. Since being elected, however, he has moved to the middle on a lot of issues and has been disowned by the socialists.

Moreno campaigned on keeping Assange at the embassy, but Assange's recent anti-Ecuador statements have resulted in Moreno changing his mind.
