I can't believe that everyone is looking for a grand slam homerun at every opportunity. A grand slam like this would probably kill IDT from a delivery point of view. Give me lots of singles, and a possible double or two, I'll (we'll) all be the happier.

I don't know what chips WIN CE will run on except for the x86 chips. I may run on MIPS chips. Best thing is to check Microsofts website. Either way, IDTI may have a suitable chip - either the MIPS or the C6. The question for the consumer market comes down to cost. The X86 chips, even Centaur's climmed down C6, doesn't pack the most bang for the buck. They just are not that efficient running modern code. The MIPs parts would be able to be gotten cheaper. However, once the C6 is shrunk down to 0.25 micron, it will have a very small die size and may be more competitive. You still have the facdt that it is designed to be Pentium compatible and therefore has a lot of I/O and functionality that probably would be wasted on a set-top box design.

You can bet that the market for set-top box uPs will be highly competitive and that some parts will be highly tailored toward these applications, much as IDT's MIPS parts are for the WebTV. I just don't know how appropriate they would be to the set-top box design.

At any rate, it is still off until early 1999 before any product is expected to be available so it would not have an immediate impact on IDTI if they are chosen.
