Jack you sound like an old Mel Brooke's movie,forgot the name though. I of course refer to your comment: "Take money from poor people in rich countries and give it to rich people in poor countries." You might be confusing here IMF 'loans' with 'foreign aid'. <<may be that's the definition of foreign aid.>> One of the obvious reasons these Asian countries are having trouble could be that their Current Account deficit is way out of line with their 'Foreign exchange reserves' due to some of the reasons you have pointed out very well in your post.
