<My guess is that Splitterless announcement will be on Monday.>

They seem to have already demonstrated it last week (though it's not on the tape).

MAKING DSL PLUG AND PLAY

Efforts to make asymmetrical digital subscriber line as easy as plug
and play took center stage last week when Aware demonstrated a
"splitterless" version of its discrete multitone technology.

Aware has removed the POTS splitter from the customer premises and
made the splitter's functions an integral, internal part of the modem,
which can be configured and installed in a PC. The splitter separates
the ADSL signal from the phone signal. The change aims to save
carriers the cost of sending workers to install the splitter.

==============

This is actually quite a nice approach, IMO. Splitterless can still be subject to interference from the phone set itself. Globespan's uses an easy to install line filter to reduce, but integrating an actual POTS splitter in the modem seems the better approach. I wonder why others didn't use this approach - maybe it's difficult, and/or has bugs? Fwiw, I'm gonna sniff around on this tomorrow.

Regards-

Steve
