scotty.

i agree completely with your trepidation;
not only MU but alot of them have been impossible
to call (or put..)

my post was a delayed response to ag, (and the intel
query last week about a straddle)a general earnings
alert. i should have said "speaking of disappointments"
not puts, to avoid the impression i thought puts in order
here. at the lows, you are right; how much is built in,
how much is actually even a factor in the climate of turmoil
remains to be seen, not called (or put...)

thanks for the history; i wish we could all save hits by
acknowledging those of others before, and save each other
that particular pleasure. i have become a very good listener
lately...

as for options: i still feel the oex puts
are the purest play. i will watch carefully futures trading, etc.
tonight, but, like you, i am wary. there are simply too many
variables at work with individual issues: the vagaries
of the world at large only compound and/or cloud internal
weaknesses, etc.

i have to stick with the index.

scotty.

the long range plan is different, however.

i am still gestating, however i feel calls(and puts)
in order on very carefully chosen marks. my
thinking stems, in part, from an essay in the
january wired, "schumpeter's lesson", What
really happened in digital technology in the past
five years.

if you are so inclined, have a look at it, and we
can compare notes. i believe there are some valid
roadsigns in it...sector wise, if not terribly
company specific, anyway.

in light of their recent news...

ps

as i write this...
cicso and msft are both mentioned in
the context of year 2000 costs via
realaudio stream, as the commentator notes:
wasn't that supposed to be a revenue generator
for software companies, well "both i guess"
he adds...unhuh. options anyone?
