What does "store of value" mean if it can't be exchanged for something?

I have never understood that phrase in the context of gold except as a kind of currency of last resort, if all other currencies fail. That too has always struck me as idiotic. What would determine the value of any piece of gold under those chaotic conditions?

At least gold has some other uses though.

In truly "chaotic conditions", what would the value of USD currency be? Maybe for toilet paper or tinder for a fire? I'd much rather have arable land, seeds, guns and ammunition, especially the latter in popular calibers (.223, .22LR and 9mm).

The value of any currency is only in the eye of the beholder. Right now the beholders are valuing bitcoin's inflation resistance, and demand is vastly exceeding a limited supply, which is fixed forever. If we enter a period of worldwide inflation, and governments inflate their currencies to reduce their deficit burdens, you ain't seen nothin' yet in terms of bitcoin values.
