California is bankrupt.
Nope, California is running budget surpluses these days.

That's the thing about California's liberalism. We can afford to be liberal because we have so much money from high tech and from Hollywood.

That of course breeds arrogance like you see from Wharfie and SleazZpat, but it also means the so-called "middle class" is basically squeezed like nowhere else.
