Home A/V system enables Internet browsing

KOREA: Daewoo Telecom Co. recently unveiled its WebStation CD550, a combination home A/V system equipped with a built-in laser karaoke, DVD player and Internet access capability.

The product also supports small office, home office functions, or SOHO. Its DVD-ROM driver can playback videos stored on DVD-ROM, with HDTV-level picture quality and Dolby AC-3 digital sound.

The WebStation CD550 can likewise send and receive fax messages. Users can organize their schedules, directory and spending using the personal information management software that comes with the product.

The unit uses a Cyrix Media Gxi 166MHz processor, with 16MB memory and 2MB video RAM. Other specifications are a 2.1GB hard drive, a 3.5-inch floppy drive, a DVD-ROM drive, a 16-bit sound card, an MPEG-2 board and a built-in TV decoder.

A keyboard, mouse, software and remote control also come with the product. Users can also request a Pro Logic speaker system and wireless remote control.

The word is full of rumors, 4Mx4 now $3.00, 1Mx16 ~$2.50:

1. Samsung is cutting production 40% this year
2. MU just filled suit again against the Koreans
3. Supply/demand catching up

take your pick. Me, I take #2, which means by Feb, it will head back down as the held back product gets dumped.
