I use Macrium Reflect Free and Acronis True Image to make compressed image files and drive clones that can boot your computer, since compressed drive images cannot boot a computer unless they are unpacked and restored to full size on a drive.

When making a very important drive image, I often make separate images using both Macrium and Acronis in case one image fails to restore.

Knock wood, I haven't had an image created by any utility fail to restore yet, but an image is worthless if you can't restore it.
