>> Why do you think racists changed? Sexists? Gay bashers?

I believe there are different reasons. The Civil Rights Act is ultimately responsible for killing racism in America. That is what, in my town, eliminated "colored" entrances and drinking fountains, allowed blacks to attend "our" schools, and generally forced an end to segregation. Affirmative Action probably helped some at first, but like almost all government programs, eventually all of it was just counterproductive. There was a time when bussing became counterproductive, AA, and most of that law today is just superfluous regulation. My parents were never racists, but I never saw a black man come in the front door of my dad's restaurant until 1966 (a soldier, who a white waitress refused to serve and had to be replaced). No black person would ever have walked in the front door prior to the Civil Rights Act.

Today, the idiocy of cake bakers refusing to bake gay wedding cakes is silly. The couple should simply take the business elsewhere. Because we do not have to eradicate these views. But it was their prerogative to go to court and that is okay, too. People have the right to behave irrationally.

I'm not sure what a gay basher is, but they've always been outliers, and in my life I've not seen them. I did not understand homosexuality at all when I was young and it just seemed stupid. About the 9th grade a young fellow started telling me and a friend he was gay and we thought it our job to convince him he was just confused. It didn't work; he's been gay ever since.

As to sexism, I don't believe it is a major problem today. But it is a foreign concept to me. My wife is a strong woman and no one is going to take advantage of her. I would recommend any woman stand up for herself, and she should be fine.
