I was asked PM how to know when a drive is getting old.

CrystalDiskInfo is a fantastic free utility and reports SMART errors and hours of use and temperature for any internal drive.

Typically I retire drives or put them on light duty before 30 thousand hours and any drive reporting SMART errors should be backed-up immediately.
