"it robs us of our own humanity. "

IIRC, I remember androids robbed all humanity in attendance of their lives at the end of Season 1, not the mention the saga of Governor Terminator.

We liked both series.

It reminds me of the Tamagotchis- not sure if you remember those. My kids loved them. They were small "pets" that you had to take care of- or they died. And I thought it was a good experience for my kids- even if the "pets" weren't real, my kids emotions for them were, and their care was real.

Practicing cruelty, even on non-feeling entities, reinforces the pathways of cruelty in the brain- and a strengthened pathway is a strengthened pathway- it doesn't really matter how it was strengthened.
