Only a fool would trust the US. The lifetime of a US policy is at best till the next administration comes to power, and at worst DOA given the dysfunctional Congress. How can you trust a country where everything from old alliances to NATO is up for grabs? China, on the other hand, is trustworthy because they have a coherent policy; if you give them what they want, you will get what you want. No side agendas or messy internal politics that would spill over to the international arena.
