Night Writer, Several Commission members have not been able to access SI due to the "attack".......They are now concerned about the security of the internet.

That may explain why I seem to be the only one hat seems to be very excited about the NEC win in Cook County. There is a chance that the Chicago Tribune story has scooped both NEC Technologies and Identix. We have three sources to tap tomorrow...and should be able to report back. I hope that NEC is going to be the input machine provider....and have a cigar ready.

More from Salomon........

2nd quarter estimates...Sales...$19.3 million. Product....$9.7 million, Service....$9.5 million. Earnings.....4 cents. Product margin....51%. Service margin.....16%. SGA....22.2% of sales...down from 34.2% last year 2nd quarter.

As of November 19th 1997...Salomon has no position in IDX stock.

E-Commerce may be the Holy Grail.....We expect e-commerce to explode during the next four years from about $2.2 billion in 1996 to more than $220 billion in 2001. The majority of growth likely will come from business to business commerce with about 5% of the total from retail sources.........We expect financial institutions to be early adopters.

Computer network security......As corporate assets increasingly move from hardware to software, knowledgeware and information, we expect that the need to securely manage access to information will grow accordingly.

Earnings growth....On a consolidated basis, Identix will likely increase earnings at about a 65% compound annual growth rate during the next four years.

Who? Visions

I read Mr. Randolph's earlier post in detail. These guys are interesting. Their ex-Lucent leader appears to be credible. Sandia (LASX) is willing to pay 20 million of its shares to XL Technologies for their optical scanner technology. They may have a viable product but they obviously do not understand the fingerprint market if they think they will be able to sell 35 million pads over the next 4 years. If the units only cost $10 but they are selling for $25 the cost of pads produced would be $350 million. That is a tall order for a start-up unless Mag Tech is going to fund them.

I agree with Brad regarding these guys. If Randy Fowler thinks their pads will work for low-end applications he will agree to buy them for $15 each and add value by incorporating Identix software. The website specifically says that the pads are set up to receive corporate logo prints. Would you rather pay $30 for the scanner with rudimentary software or $50 for the same scanner with advanced software?

The Who? vision website indicates that the pads have only 400 dpi resolution. I think most other acquisition devices, including Veridicom, are 500 dpi or better.

It looks like Who? Vision is getting ready for an IPO or to access additional funding through some other method. I think I will take a wait and see approach with them.
