Dunno, but ±no moving parts in contact with the medium could be hard to beat!

I like the SBIR grant proposal (or has it been actually awarded?). I may not get it, but it sounds like the opposite of a loudspeaker, with the panel resisting sounds from the air by damping them electronically. Is that about it?
