I agree. I can't imagine a republican ever putting country before party. I can't think of a time in my life when that's happened. Even during Watergate most of the republicans on the Judiciary Committee refused to vote for impeachment "after" the smoking gun. I find it odd that people assume they'd have done the right thing if Nixon hadn't resigned. The evidence suggests otherwise - a party of cowards.

IMO, they hoped Nixon would resign so they could get away with doing nothing (their natural way of handling every problem) and if Nixon hadn't resigned it'd have been on Dems and a few republicans to remove him from office (not a majority of republicans).
