(1/9/98) Erradication Question: Are there any other erradication experiments taking place that we may hear results from this year? I heard of a possible gene therapy that may prove to erradicate the virus. Is there any truth to this? I know you don't like to talk of a cure but do you think one will ever be possible? Response: Dear Eradication Questioner, It is unlikely that there will truly be a cure for this disease. It is much more likley that we will be able to significantly suppress the virus to the point where where the immune system can recover and people can live a normal life other than the that they have to take a lot of pills everyday. This is an area of intense interest that I am sure you will be hearing lots more about. Stay tuned but don't kid yourself. RM
