Rarebird,
I don't think Bernie Sander's political philosophy is "designed to crush the upper middle income."
Good intentions are irrelevant. What always ends up happening is that the "middle class" gets squeezed from the top.

That's how you can end up with a whole bunch of people living on $100K, $200K, even $300K per year, and still calling themselves "middle class."

Remember when the threshold for being "rich" was $250K/year? Every Democrat from Obama to Gov. Jerry Brown used that threshold to push for higher taxes on the "rich."

P.S. - Republicans aren't much different. Even the Trump tax plan squeezes the upper middle class thanks to the SALT deduction cap and the mortgage interest deduction cap. Because those "blue states" need to pay up ...

Looks like we're seeing some follow through on the downdraft in the S&P500. I read an article the other day that pointed to the fact that Yellen promised to reduce the Fed balance sheet by $30B by end of Jan, but had only accomplished a drawdown of $11B...so not much impact of QT on the S&P500. But the article asserted that now that she is done and Powel is in, the QT will now begin in earnest. To catch up, Powell will need to do the $19B and another $20B for the month of Feb. That's a lot of QT catchup in one month, which will add to the downside pressure.
