(why would Intel cut their prices more than usual if things are good).

That is too easy.....to gain market share, increase volume by opening new markets and to destroy the competition which has just gotten a foothold at Compaq.

It is the "new markets" that has me excited and is what I look for at the Conference call. By being a better low cost producer, Intel can go after markets that they didn't in the past, such as set top boxes, and where their competition was making somewhat of a living.

I believe Brinker is betting on an improvement in Intel? He said he bought it back recently at about 69 1/8 (after selling it in the mid nineties). He's got to be betting on an overall upswing in Intel's stock price (despite any possible negatives in their pending earnings announcement)
