BT,

<<These folks don't care who takes the hit. But feel that the Chinese are better able to withstand the furor, on average, since they tend to stay away from highly leveraged situations.

I agree with this observation. In general I think the Chinese tend to be considerably more prudent in all aspects. I think if someone could study it they would find that there has been a lot more profligacy amongst the Malay then the Chinese. This is just IMHO and I may be affected by pre conceived notions etc. I also suspect that the Malay have been much more prone to use credit. Again, just IMHO. So, perhaps one caution is that we might experience a worsening of inter racial tensions, a spectre that I find alarming. To be sure, the strange partnership in malaysia among the races has led to a long period of solid economic growth. It would horribly sad to piss it away in renewed bigotry and hatred.

One very strange observation I will share with you. While it may seem extremely ironic I have spoken with Chinese who say that they are glad there are decks stacked in favor of the Malay because as long as it is that way, the Malay will never have the incentive to become truly competitive, and the society here will thus always need the Chinese business acumen and work ethic. I don't know whether to subscribe any credence to this or write it off as yet another example of bigotry. As usual I see industriousness, goodness, evil, follies, foibles, misinformation, etc etc evidenced in all ethnic groups. Any thoughts?
Best,
Stitch
