2/9/2018 Contest update I recently read “The Fear Index” by Robert Harris, in which an autonomous AI-trained computer makes billions trading volatility. Watching this week’s stock market gyrations I have to wonder whether Harris’ sci-fi vision has become reality. Meanwhile, at Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 7.18% YTD (vs. up 10.16% YTD a week ago), the Nasdaq Biotech Index (NBI), was down -0.92% YTD (vs. up 5.13% YTD a week ago), the smaller-cap S&P Biotechnology Select Industry Index (SPSIBI), was up 2.54% YTD (vs. up 8.25% YTD a week ago), with the Nasdaq Composite Index (NCI), down -0.42% YTD (vs. up 4.89% YTD a week ago). Boosted by the week’s top performer, AFMD, SPTAD’s portfolio, up 28.56% YTD, hopped into first place, with RKRW’s portfolio, up 28.20% YTD, slipping to second place and KEOKA’s portfolio, up 22.32% YTD, moving up to third place. At Friday's close, 50 of the 62 Contest portfolios were in the green, with 53 beating the NBI and 42 beating the SPSIBI.
