"The expanded alliance coincides with Digital's plans to ship by month's end an Alpha processor with firmware that restricts it to running only NT software, sources close to the company said. The chip is expected to run NT applications faster than existing Alphas that support multiple operating systems."

I both like and don't like that. I like that Bill DOES NOT want Unix progress and will hopefully finally publicly promote Alpha. I don't like removing flexibility from a multi use box that will now have to be replaced with two boxes. It also seems to be another Digital favor to Bill which previously have been quite marginally rewarded, IMO.
