Bob, how in the world could you have missed such a classic performance or such a classic human being? The black haired doctor's assistant, glasses, remember? Always a source of light and always speaking about Jesus or the Lord? The movie had him mauled to death at the deserted train station, where he had gone as a very unprepared extra gun. He was always in the white medical garb. I know he simply wasn't created by a screen writer. I believe he was out of history. And like so many people you trace their origins to see where in the world their human soul came from, probably the British guy was a strong Christian also. It was implied.
I would not doubt the Douglas' character was in fact a hard drinking man, however. That seemed to fit perfectly. I was awed by the movie. Knowing it was mostly out of reality. I guess the llions just killed a whole bunch of people for a long time. Truly they were demons in lion's bodies. Truly.
