John here is my preference:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Datek for NASD trades only. You won't get the slippage of E-trade or Ameritrade. Datek route most orders through Island (ISLD) an electronic matching service (ECN). You can split the spread like the SOES traders do using Instinet (INCA)However they don't offer options and NYSE trades get posted slow and no limit trades on NYSE only. Datek offers free real-time NASD quotes, but you have to type in symbols constantly.

AB Watley has a good connection to PC Quote if you want a premium service. ISDN is recommended (by me) because PC Quote can jam-up at 28.8
If you are doing real-time then you need to stay liquid and glued to your screen to attempt to make 1/8ths and 1/4ths. You may miss big trend moves because of this liquidity. If you are only going to do weekly portfolio adjustments, then you might want to employ an averaging technique (my favorite is A.I.M., see thread here at SI hosted by Tom Veale on same).

Happy trading.
Scott
