support.mozilla.org How to install older version

ftp.mozilla.org Link to version 56.0.2

Detailed step-by-step from another poster follows. It contains a couple things you may wish to consider to ensure you have backed up bookmarks and such.

These are the steps I did in my Windows 10 to revert to older version.

1 In the address bar type about:preferences#general then press <enter>, then at the 'Allow Firefox to' heading select this [Never check for updates]. Unselect [Use a background service to install updates].

2 (optional, just in case something goes wrong) Backup profile folder by following the [Backing up your profile] section steps at support.mozilla.org

3 In windows 'add or remove programs', uninstall Mozilla Firefox

4 Download 56.0.2 from ftp.mozilla.org (or other older versions from ftp.mozilla.org )

5 Disconnect from the internet (unplug ethernet cable)

6 Install 56.0.2

7 Open Firefox 56.0.2 and do this step. In the address bar type about:preferences#general then press <enter>, then at the 'Allow Firefox to' heading select this [Never check for updates]. Unselect [Use a background service to install updates].

8 If bookmarks does not appear, follow the restore steps here support.mozilla.org

9 Connect to internet.

10 Done, everything should be working fine now, just like before Firefox 57 was installed.

My FF "tools" tab then "options" has a choice to shut off auto updates. Seems easier than typing the stuff into address bar.

You can select your choice concerning updates. Go to Tools; Options; General. Scroll down to Allow FF to, and make your update choice.

Search the web for the recent version you prefer and you can reinstall without losing any settings.
