Sneering at plasters could cost you a fortune. John Boot began selling plasters in 1849 and in 2012 Boots was sold to Walgreens for $4 billion, including PharmaPlus in Canada.

On the other hand, Walgreens was founded 51 years later but soon began selling medicinal prescription whiskey during Prohibition, which proves that selling booze to incurable alcoholics is a better investment than selling plasters for shinsplints and other ailments . . . . but both beat the returns of investing in gold - just ask Martinus Armafortis.
