Perhaps you expect politicians to lie to get elected and then weasel their way out. I hold people to what they promise.

But regardless of your expectations, the fact remains that when Obama first took over Dems controlled both houses of Congress (and of course the presidency) and when he left the Dems had nothing. This is not subject to speculation - it is a fact.

Furthermore Bush and GOP were highly unpopular. Given Rove's polarizing politics to achieve a "permanent majority," and the policy of doing whatever you can because you have a winning margin (no matter how slim), *everyone* including the Republicans expected Obama to fast track his agenda and build a winning base. If you didn't, you were in minority and had low expectations. But what Obama did instead was to alienate the progressives and try to appease GOP by being a more eloquent GWB. And it went downhill from there.
