I bought one on the basis on your post and recommendations. I have removed about 1/2 large trash bag of the foam and will try it again tonight. I will say the manufacturer sent me a nice email with suggestions, etc. However, I can't stand these "high" pillows. We shall see.

The absolute best pillow I ever had was a discontinued one from Frette. Many years ago.

Off gassing. My father was allergic to isocyanates, just sitting on a foam office chair would make him break out in hives didn't matter how old the chair was, same thing with the seat in his truck.. All foams have isocyanates in them. Actually its diisocyanates. I use to work with that stuff, its nasty. I would never buy a foam pillow, I would always stick to feather.
