The gun shows I've been to, in Utah, have very tight security, metal detectors at the entrance, no loaded guns allowed in the hall, ammo and guns sold separately. Besides that, if a shooter started shooting at a gun show, he'd find some people shooting back before long.

I really think everyone should attend at least one gun show, to get a clue. With the right paperwork, you can buy one of these and the ammo:
