The TSA is all about the perception of safety. There is little they do that actually prevents anything.

The solution to terrorism is good police work. Which is what is done.

I agree with you here.

Not just a mass shooting but say a terrorist carries a steamer trunk full of explosives in to the security line of one of the busiest airports at the peak of holiday airline traffic. Would amount to quite an horrendous attack, and its a hard one to do too much about, other than to try to get better intel on terrorists and try to stop them before the plot gets that far.

There is the point that weapons on an aircraft could be used for coercion to make the aircraft itself a much greater weapon, but that would be tougher now anyway with the change of attitudes and policies in regards to hijacking, and with reinforced cockpit doors and such.
