The targets almost always have some connection to the shooter. For example, if it is a school, it is usually a school they attend or have attended. If it is a workplace, it is because they worked there. And so on. There is no evidence that anyone ever picked a place because it was gun free. Especially when they picked a police station. Heck, a guy here in Dallas picked a demonstration, despite the fact that many of the participants were showing up armed because he wanted to shoot police. It doesn't seem to be an important criteria.
