As anyone in the NRA should know, the physics of stopping power starts with this: Kinetic energy is a function of mass and the square of velocity. 2182 mph squared is 4,761,124 727 mph is 528,529 The bullet from the rifle has almost 10 times the stopping power of the bullet from the pistol. The effective range of the rifle is far greater than that of the pistol. The rifle will have a much larger magazine than the pistol. To recap, the rifle has much higher accuracy, many more bullets in the magazine, and 10X the knockdown power. The person with a pistol is at a very significant disadvantage.
