Have you asked for a second opinion? I've read that most back problems are inexplicable, and clear up of their own accord eventually. There's a camp that believes surgery makes no sense. I've no experience with this stuff, but you might want to ask your doctor...

I saw your posts and thought, Damn! Michael's probably stolen someone's laptop and is typing during the surgery, with the doctor saying, 'Hold still!' and Michael yelling, 'Just one more post!'
