Kiri, are we having a linear conversation?

Yes, US market can't stand alone in the world, but being more than 60% of all markets it can give it a good try.

Yes, no.. I don't think steels are a good investment, still think Asian mills will be more_ not less competitive, and the only reason I can see analysts thinking steel is good is because of lower interest rates sparking demand for durables and construction.

Asian funds and other countries' funds have been coming here for some time already... flight of capital has been a continuing problem going back a year or more before the Chinese recouped Hong Kong. In some countries right now, there are bring home the dollar and don't let your money go out of the country campaigns... Thailand has been having a terribel problem with capital flight.

"..if Australian market was the strongest market and our market fell apart how many would have the money and the courage to bet on the Australian market. Not me."

Institutions invest overseas all the time for individuals, even though the individuals don't know it. Its a global economy already.

Kiri, the markets certainly got too high.. and the corrections in some sectors will create value opportunities. The semi's are a good example of a high demand product specific to the hardest hit geographic areas, the Pacific Rim. The demand certainly won't go away, indeed it may intensify making some companies the best investing opportunity in years.
