Don,

<<I couldn't find any similar figures for Maylasia but I know they are not represented by a union so it probably is lower. I closed my eyes and picked $8 per hour for an average wage.>>

I assume you are looking for the current rate per hour including EPF and other expense for a total in USD? It is way far less then $8. Even before the devaluation when the Ringiit was trading at 2.48 to the dollar the figure was in the neighborhood of $ 2.50 an hour. It must be at least 1/2 that now though I do not know this for a fact. I think you are on to a good exercise. Let me poke around for rates in China,Thailand, Malaysia, and S'Pore. The last report I saw on S'Pore was 4.50 USD per hour for an avg assembly worker in the electronics business. S'Pore would represent the HIGH for the group pf countries mentioned. I think I should be able to get some more data. We will need to somehow arrive at a normalized rate in a given factory. Another hole in your assumptions is to try to compare APM as a norm to a dd factory. Labor content varies substantially. APM has a product considerably more process oriented and therefore more capital intensive.
Best,
Stitch
